Biopharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences announced the grant funding of $7.6 million to support a range of initiatives among 24 community organizations focused on reducing health inequities in the treatment of breast cancer, including digital and mobile healthcare access and cultural competency training.
Among the criteria employed for selection of the grantees was their ability to develop measurable outcomes and implement sustainable changes to address breast cancer treatment disparities, particularly in historically underserved and marginalized communities.
The new grant program from Gilead, dubbed the “Toward Health Equity Oncology Grants,” was rolled out in addition to the company’s 10-year commitment of over $100 million to combat HIV in the U.S. South, as well as Gilead’s Racial Equity Community Impact Fund that provides grants to organizations addressing racial inequities.
