In a major advancement for new technology to drive health equity, Google Cloud announced the launch of novel solutions to assist healthcare organizations with value-based care and patient flow with the goal of progressing overall health equity. The company rolled out three new Healthcare Data Engine (HDE) accelerators at HLTH 2022 that were developed in association with Lifepoint Health, Meridian Health and other collaborators.
The HDE accelerators come amid greater recognition of the importance of enhancing the communication and centralization of data across health care organizations and systems to boost not only efficiency, but also, importantly, the advancement of patient care and health outcomes for individuals and families.
While the health and medical industries experience a range of challenges sparked by siloed information systems and infrastructure that were not initially designed to maximize interoperability, the environment is ripe for change. It is within this context that the Google Cloud solutions can be game-changing. For example, by offering tools that allow healthcare enterprises to match patients with relevant community-based organizations and resources, patients from traditionally under-resourced communities can now gain an understanding of, and access to, community health resources to which they otherwise would not have access.
Likewise, another new HDE accelerator will contain dashboards to assist healthcare providers with leveraging databases comprised of social determinants of health information. This seeks to solve for the very longtime challenge in health equity of traditional forecasting tools lacking and incorporating SDOH in patient records.
