LA Care Health Plan and Health Net Pledge $114M to Promote Health Equity

LA Care Health Plan and Health Net have committed $114 million to enhance health equity and to tackle homelessness in a bold move to establish and support more equitable health outcomes across Los Angeles County by espousing and implementing a comprehensive approach with respect to various social determinants of health.

The two health plans are contributing $80 million and $34 million, respectively, to the project, which is being implemented in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Homeless Initiative.

The funds, which will be made available over five years, will secure leases on up to 1,900 housing units for unhoused individuals with rental vouchers, and identify those who require assistance with daily living activities (DLA) to move into permanent housing.

The issue of homelessness is a matter of health equity as numerous unhoused individuals in Los Angeles County belong to racial or ethnic minority groups that historically were underrepresented and marginalized. The investments are part of California’s Housing and Homelessness Incentive Program and will help address the housing disparities that lead to health inequities.
