There has been progress in increasing Black representation on healthcare governing boards, but a ‘critical mass’ still needs to be achieved according to a news report.
According to a new analysis from the nonprofit Black Directors Health Equity Agenda, black representation in the boardrooms of healthcare organizations is insufficient to meet the needs of the communities they serve, despite some progress made in recent years.
According to a report from BDHEA, the proportion of U.S. hospital and health system boards with at least one non-white board member increased from 53% in 2014 to 68% in 2022. The report also found that the average number of hospital board members who identified as part of a racial or ethnic minority group increased from 1.2 to 1.6 from 2011 to 2021. The BDHEA is a union of corporate leaders working to address differences affecting Black people and communities.
