Health equity advocates are championing today’s announcement by Connecticut Governor Lamont and the Connecticut Hospital Association relating to their agreement on legislative health care policies designed to enhance health equity.
The measures include policies that enhance existing regulatory authority to drive down health costs, boost health care quality, and materially improve access to health education and health care for Connecticut’s residents from historically underrepresented and marginalized populations.
Governor Lamont and the CHA also agreed to develop and implement a plan focused on measuring and improving healthcare outcomes, community engagement in healthcare, and overall health equity by making improvements to identified barriers to impactful health education and service delivery to underrepresented individuals and families.
Another element of the agreement poised to improve health equity is the expansion of a multi-state consortium focused on purchasing discounted drugs and allowing Connecticut residents to use the discount card.
This policy development in Connecticut is directly in line with similar health equity initiatives sweeping through other states as well. They all are being watched closely to gage which of them can best serve as case studies for future health equity policy, programs and outcomes.
