The 2024 award applications are open until November 17, with three categories: transforming, emerging, and small/rural hospital excellence.
In 2023, notable recipients of these awards were highlighted. Meritus Health in Maryland received the “transforming” award for its strategies to improve equity, including leadership diversity and cultural competency training. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Jersey, an “emerging” award winner, focused on dismantling barriers and fostering equity within its healthcare system, engaging with community leaders. Monument Health Rapid City Hospital in South Dakota, the “small/rural hospital excellence” awardee, excelled in data collection and training to address disparities, particularly affecting Native Americans.
AHA offers resources, including the Health Equity Roadmap and Transformation Assessment, to help healthcare organizations progress toward greater equity and inclusivity. They encourage all hospitals and health systems to utilize these resources to provide better care and improve the overall health of their communities
